LANSDALE >> Businesses large and small worked toward one goal throughout this past year — to raise money for Manna on Main Street.
Participants in the annual Florence Nightingale Challenge gathered at Manna’s dining area in the North Penn Commons complex for an appreciation breakfast Thursday as the organization’s board members and employees thanked the assembled group for their efforts.
The Florence Nightingale Challenge began about a decade ago, and each year, businesses pledge to garner item or monetary donations for Manna on Main Street through myriad methods. While some participants put out collection jars and others hosted community events, 33 businesses raised more than $21,000 during the 2016-17 challenge. The money will benefit Manna’s operations, which include a soup kitchen and food pantry among other community support services.
Total Body Rehab was recognized with the Most Creative Award for its “Cinco de ‘Mayo’” event May 5, 2016, in which it collected mayonnaise for Manna.
Other challenge participants are: Advantage Real Estate, Blessings Family Hair Car, Clean House Recycling LLC, Frank’s Pizza, Freedom Credit Union, Friendly Food Mart, Golden Scissors, Green Street Luxuries, Harmony Promotional Solutions, High Note Vocals Voice Studio, Hollywood Nails and Spa, Lansdale Business Center, Massage, Wellness & Beyond, Milestones In Music, Minuteman Press, Montgomery United Soccer Club, The North Pennsmen Chorus, North Penn VW Mazda, Pedallers Bike Shop, Philly Pretzel Factory, PJ Auto Parts, Reimenschneider Insurance Agency, Rita’s Italian Ice, Round Guys Brewing Co., Swirled Peace, Wave Reviews Salon and Spa, West Point Deli Plus and Yanni’s Gyro.
The 2017-18 challenge officially begins May 15.
