The number of Pennsylvanians going hungry has drastically risen in recent years,according to a new report from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and FeedingPennsylvania.
Between 2021 and 2024, food insecurity has increased 44% in Pennsylvania — amountingto nearly 2 million residents across the commonwealth — according to Feeding America’slatest Map the Meal Gap 2026 report on Tuesday, which provides food insecurity estimateson the county and state levels.
But while the most recent food insecurity data ends in 2024, researchers noted publicpolicy changes and economic indicators that point to “the strong likelihood that foodinsecurity rates are even higher today.”
